So many of us misunderstand the power our choices have. It’s your power of choice that has you listening to this meditation. Your power of choice is what made your last personal accomplishment a success. It was also your personal choice that got you into your last close call. We all need to take a deeper look at how the individual choices we make each day determine one or more of outcomes, not only for that day, but perhaps for a lifetime. Exercising the power of choice is what gets permissive parents in trouble with their children as they allow the child to manipulate them. They abdicate their better choice into one the child prefers. We choose to allow our children to talk back. We choose to reward their bad behavior with more things that they want. We choose to allow a partner to be rude to us instead of choosing to ask them not to use that tone with us. Now that I think about it, in my early days in life insurance business, when I was not yet doing well, I was reading a motivational book and the author had the audacity to say that “wherever you are in your life today is exactly where you want to be.“ Since at that particular time, I was struggling to get started in the life insurance business and was not where I wanted to be, so I disagreed with his assessment. But later in that same day, as I kept thinking about what he had said, I suddenly realized he was right; I was exactly where I wanted to be because it was my decisions to do what I did with each day that caused me to be where I was, unsuccessful to date. I don’t know if you will experience the epiphany I did after reading and truly pondering his statement, but that was a turning point in my career, because I determined that I was going to make better decisions in the future so that I could actually be where I wanted to be. So, whether or not you accept the fact that you are exactly where you want to be right now, based on your decisions, your choices up to this point, those are the facts of the matter. So now that you know, you and your past decisions are the reason for being where you are today, wherever that is, what changes, if needed, are you going to make to ensure that 365 days from today you are closer to where you truly want to be? Giving this observation some serious thought, has the potential to change your life forever! Please give it the attention it deserves.
