Knowledge for the sake of knowledge is a worthwhile pursuit. I'm sure some of us know people whose heads are full of knowledge. They know lots of stuff about lots of stuff, and that's a good thing. What I would like to address today is directed to those of us who are trying to reach certain goals, so we are acquiring as much knowledge as we can about the course or the business we are engaged in or want to undertake. If you fit this category of seeking to increase your knowledge in order to increase your income or your status at work, these comments are for you. Some of the most knowledgeable individuals in our society, can be some of our least productive. Knowing a lot of stuff, allows some people to outshine their peers with impressive displays of knowledge. That's OK as long as their wellspring of information is not being used productively, as long as it pleases them and isn't harmful to anyone else. It's the knowledge that some of us accumulate, that should be helping us advance our careers or our personal endeavors that I am focusing on today. If you, like so many of us, have been increasing your knowledge base in order to enhance your future career or entrepreneurial possibilities, just be mindful that it's not how much knowledge you have that makes the difference; it's how much of the knowledge you have that you put to productive use. It isn't enough just to know stuff, we have to be willing to step out and use our acquired information perhaps, before we're ready. Waiting until we're absolutely ready, can allow opportunities for growth to pass us by. In addition to knowledge, timing is also a crucial factor. It is far better to apply what you know too soon than too late. A missed opportunity in our careers or our businesses can become a major setback to our professional advancement. "Don't wait – advance" that slogan is emblazoned beneath the framed photo of a beautiful Iris flower hanging on the wall in my living room. It is a reminder for me, that it is Action that is the all important ingredient in reaching our objectives or goals. Remember, that while knowledge is good; Action is better! Do something every day that moves you closer to where you want to be. DON'T WAIT - ADVANCE!
